The Middleburg Film Festival is honored to present the 2020 Distinguished Film Composer Award to Kris Bowers.

Playing on the same piano used by Nat King Cole, Bowers will perform selections from his scores in a virtual tribute concert from LA’s famed Capitol Records where many legendary recording artists created their most iconic works. With two upcoming projects – “Respect,” the Aretha Franklin biopic starring Jennifer Hudson and “The United States vs. Billie Holiday” starring Andra Day as Holiday – Bowers has quickly become one of the most sought after young composers working in film and television.

What sets Bowers apart is his versatility and unique ability to compose music that resonates across a diverse continuum of artists, storytellers, and audiences. Known for his scores on Best Picture Oscar winner “Green Book,” Ava DuVernay’s Netflix mini-series “When They See Us,” “Kobe Bryant’s Muse,” Dear White People” and “Mrs. America,” Emmy Award-winning composer and pianist, Kris Bowers, creates genre-defying music that reflects his jazz roots with inflections of alternative and R&B influences.

Kris will be joined by Grammy-nominated singer/actress, Andra Day, performing two songs. Andra plays Billie Holiday in the upcoming film. “The United States vs. Billie Holiday”.
